Surrey Space Centre (SSC) is a leading force in space engineering research and education. We are looking to recruit a Space Mission Ground Station Engineer to work with the SSC Director and the Centre's academics to complete a comprehensive upgrade to SSC's satellite ground-station facility (hardware and software) taking it to state-of-the-art capability. In addition to SSC's missions, which include the next generation of CubeSats and lunar projects, we also provide mission support for other parts of the University and third parties.
This role will be a great opportunity for the right person to work with SSC's engineers and academics to deliver a leading-edge ground support facility.
We are looking for someone who already has a good understanding of the principles of satellite telemetry, telecommand and tracking who is able to make a significant engineering contribution to upgrading the SSC Ground Station's hardware and software. Additional desirable attributes are:
* Knowledge and experience of satellite communications, ground stations or similar systems
* Good practical working knowledge of relevant software tools (e.g.Linux, python, C/C++ & html programming and PC computer networking)
* Experience of CubeSat mission operations covering mission development from concept to detailed design of the satellite.
* Experience of radio systems and satellite communications systems.
* Full Amateur Radio license
* Experience of working in complex and demanding technical project environments, including management of resources and schedule.
* Strong health and safety awareness.
Established in 1979, SSC is an internationally acclaimed centre of excellence in space engineering, which enjoys an outstanding reputation for the quality of its research and teaching and has strong links with the space industry. SSC has an extensive range of space test and experimental facilities including a satellite ground station and operations centre; large cleanroom; thermal, vacuum, vibration, radiation and shock environmental test facilities, large granite tables for zero-friction experiments, propulsion laboratory and solar simulation facility.
We are currently benefiting from the creation of the University's Surrey Space Institute which demonstrates the University's commitment to leadership in space.
The grade of the appointment will be appropriate to the degree to which the requirements are met.
