Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable *HGV Mechanic* to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles, ensuring all vehicles remain safe, roadworthy, and compliant with legal standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and trailers
* Diagnose faults using diagnostic equipment and rectification techniques
* Perform MOT preparation and inspections to DVSA standards
* Complete preventative maintenance to minimise vehicle downtime
* Repair and replace mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components
* Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures
* Accurately complete job cards, service sheets, and maintenance records
* Maintain a clean and safe working environment
* Comply with health & safety regulations at all times
* Provide breakdown support as required (if applicable)
Skills and Experience Required:
* Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic / Technician
* Relevant qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent)
* Valid HGV driving licence (Class C or C+E) – desirable but not essential
* Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
* Knowledge of DVSA regulations and vehicle safety standards
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Good time management and attention to detail
Desirable:
* Experience working with mixed fleets
* Trailer maintenance experience
* IRTEC accreditation
* Experience with diagnostic software
