Overview
The Advanced Biomedical Scientist for Coagulation and Haematology at Barnsley Hospital is responsible, with the Lead Haematology and Lead Blood Transfusion BMSs, for the day-to-day running of the Haematology Laboratory. This includes technical expertise, training, human resources, stock resources and asset management, and management of the Blood Sciences support workers.

The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership integrates the pathology services delivered on behalf of Partner Trusts within the Integrated Care System footprint: Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; Sheffield Children 1s NHS Foundation Trust; Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties
* Provide frontline scientific and technical expertise in Coagulation and Haematology settings.
* Act as first line response to escalated issues from staff and external suppliers, including clinical, technical and EQA issues.
* Ensure processes and policies are adhered to by staff.
* Lead HR-related responsibilities including roster development, training, recruitment and retention, personnel issues and sickness management.
* Possibly deputise for the Lead Haematology BMS.
Contract and employment notes
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed-term contract basis for up to 12 months. Secondment or extension may occur depending on internal/external factors. The fixed-term status will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's obligations regarding fixed-term contracts and secondments. Any secondment must be agreed with your current line manager.

Lab details
Barnsley is part of the SYBP Network and operates a highly automated hub laboratory serving Barnsley Trust and Barnsley and Rotherham PCGs. The laboratory uses Inpeco track system to deliver samples to four Siemens Advia 2120 analysers and two Stago coagulation analysers. The laboratory is busy and operates full service until 21:00 Monday to Friday; out-of-hours service is provided at weekends.
