The Opportunity
We have a permanent opportunity for Structural Engineers / Bridge Engineers to join our Amey Consulting team. Amey delivers local, national and international infrastructure projects for clients including Transport Scotland, Network Rail, National Highways, Local Authorities and Contractors. We have secured multiple long-term contracts and continue to grow into new regions and markets.

* £240m Avonmouth and Severn Bridges SBIM contract
* Midlands Highway Alliance Plus consultancy framework

The role
As a Bridge Engineer, you will play an important part in every stage of a project from inception to completion.
Key responsibilities
* Implement project requirements to fully meet client specifications with relevant standards.
* Undertake technical work within your ability and competence.
* Prepare and check design approaches, calculations, drawings and documents.
* Carry out site visits and surveys, inspections and supervise sub-contractors.
* Prepare and check feasibility studies, inspections, assessments, and technical reports ensuring compliance with Amey procedures.
* Work with minimal supervision and check the work of others.
* Assist with supervision, mentoring and development of team members from Graduate Engineers and Technicians through to Assistant Engineers.
* Assist with contract preparation together with project planning and programming.
* Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly CDM regulations.
* Work in a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions.
* Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of scheme deliverables that meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
* Oversee the actions of more junior staff and take responsibility for their work.
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
* Manage a small, locally based single-discipline technical team and deliver their workload.
* Contribute to bids and general working-winning activities.
* Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
What you will bring to us
* Developed experience and expertise within structural engineering, likely in an Assistant Engineer role or equivalent
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent learning
* Bachelor's / Master's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
* Chartered status (or working towards it) with ICE, IStructE or CIHT or other appropriate professional body
* Experience in the assessment, design and/or management of bridges
* Excellent understanding of structural behaviour and analysis
* Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as DMRB and / or Eurocodes
* Enjoys working in a team environment; collaborative approach
* Proactive approach and commitment to health, safety and welfare
* Experience with highway structures and major bridges
* Experience in FE analysis using Lusas, Atena or Midas software
