Job Summary
Contract until 31 March 2026. The role supports the Cancer Alliances ambition to improve early cancer diagnosis across Mid and South Essex. This fixed‑term role is available as an internal secondment until end of March 2026 (or a fixed‑term contract if coming from outside). The position will be offered as a secondment if coming from an NHS organisation, or as a fixed‑term contract if coming from outside an organisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead targeted communications and engagement with primary care networks (PCNs), patient groups and voluntary sector partners.
* Promote cancer screening uptake, especially among underserved and high‑inequality groups, and develop educational resources for non‑clinical staff.
* Ensure timely information flow and cascade to PCNs, working closely with the Cancer Alliance, primary care leads and communications teams.
* Manage and deliver awareness campaigns, using social media and other communications channels.
* Provide project support and ensure projects meet key milestones and timelines.
* Act as the link between the cancer programme and the communications team, providing assurance to the cancer steward and other stakeholders.
* Maintain and nurture relationships with key partners and stakeholders across the system.
* Manage staff (where appropriate) and any budgets or income streams of delivery.
* Use ICB owned digital platforms such as the Primary Care Hub (SharePoint) and Engagement HQ (Virtual Views) to support wider communications and engagement needs.
* Support the development and delivery of excellent relationships with partners and stakeholders locally, regionally and nationally.
Key Deliverables
* Develop engagement plans promoting earlier diagnosis and prevention agendas for MSE to primary care and the public.
* Create and manage a communications schedule utilising social media and existing resources.
* Collaborate with the Cancer Alliance to provide insights for central resources for patients available to all ICBs.
* Ensure projects meet key milestones and goals against set timescales.
* Provide assurance to the cancer steward and other stakeholders on progress.
* Maintain and nurture relationships with key stakeholders across the system.
Person Specification & Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent (plus)
* Knowledge of specialist areas acquired through postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience/training.
* Project Management Qualification or equivalent level of experience.
* Evidence of continuing personal development.
* Substantial senior‑level experience in the NHS or public sector.
* Experience leading, managing and delivering projects involving stakeholders, specifically primary care.
* Experience managing complex, sensitive or confidential information requirements.
* Demonstrated partnership working and creating solutions across multiple stakeholders.
* Flexibility, adaptability to meet deadlines and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* Strong communication and influence skills, able to liaise at all levels.
* High level of attention to detail, prioritisation, organisation and ability to manage own workload.
* Advanced IT skills in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint.
* Ability to plan over short‑term timeframes and adjust plans and resources accordingly.
