Locum Consultant in Paediatric Nephrology
This is a 10PA locum appointment for a Locum Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist in the department of Paediatric Nephrology at Leeds General Infirmary. The role is available from September for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension to cover the entire maternity period. The successful applicant will deliver 10PAs supporting the Paediatric Nephrology team (Dr Yadav, Dr McCallister, Dr Prajapati, Dr Newnham & Dr Tyerman), provide tertiary nephrology care, and contribute to a 1:6 on‑call rota.
Main duties of the job
Provide clinical care for children with complex nephrological issues, including acute kidney injury requiring dialysis, long‑term dialysis access, renal biopsy, specialist imaging and renovascular angiography. Support transplantation activities and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams. Deliver teaching, research and service development initiatives within the department. Arrange out‑of‑hours cover in addition to regular ward rounds during normal working hours.
Job responsibilities
* Deliver tertiary level nephrology care to patients within the Leeds Children’s Hospital renal unit.
* Integrate with Consultant colleagues in related specialist sites across the Children’s Service Unit and the wider Hospital.
* Provide 1 in 6 acute on‑call cover for the duration of the appointment.
* Participate in and observe current clinical research programmes; encourage and facilitate new research projects.
* Contribute to teaching and service development for junior staff.
Qualifications
* Accreditation in Paediatric Nephrology by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent.
* On the Specialist Register, or within six months of admission if currently a trainee in the UK training programme.
* References authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director if not on the Register.
* Excellent communication and team‑working skills.
* A strong commitment to teaching and service development.
Experience
* Established skills in paediatric nephrology.
* Experience with acute on‑call duties and ward and outpatient care in a tertiary setting.
