The Job
To provide guidance and project leadership to the design team alongside the Chief Engineer; to ensure that innovative solutions are devised; and that these are progressed from concept stage to detailed component drawings considering full product lifecycle within the required deadlines.
Main Duties
1. Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, to ensure accountability for timely and appropriate outcomes. In doing so, demonstrate a comprehensive ability to operate in an efficient and self-managed way, whilst providing knowledge and expertise to the team, to upskill and evolve their competency.
2. Manage the design schedule, constructively allocating work to suitable members of the design team, ensure all the relevant information for each project has been defined prior to the design KO meeting.
3. Engineering drawing sign off ensuring they meet the relevant internal quality standards and suitability for chosen manufacturing method.
4. Maximise the performance of the design team, through the standardisation of core processes and procedures, together with their consistent execution.
5. Help motivate and inspire the design team to achieve operational successes.
6. As requested by the Head of Department, allocate and monitor individual and team Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
7. Ensure that projects have appropriate gateways and milestones defined. Be responsible for monitoring and reporting progress.
8. Maintain excellent customer relations, coordinating technical discussions where needed during the full product lifecycle.
9. Effectively manage the technical relationship with the supply chain team.
10. Ensure risks identified in projects are managed and escalated.
11. Interact professionally and appropriately with internal and external stakeholders; and ensure that others within the team also demonstrate these behaviours.
12. Communicate with senior management and planning team on program status, risks and issues, in an appropriate and timely manner.
13. Implement, review and update any relevant Company records/documents e.g. training guidance notes; training matrices; risk assessments; technical methods/instructions etc.
14. Attend management meetings, as required.
15. Managers are responsible for ensuring that health and safety policies, procedures, and risk controls are effectively implemented within their area of responsibility and that employees work in a safe and compliant manner.
16. Managers are responsible for carrying out their department’s Risk Assessment annual review and ensuring it is accurately maintained following any additions and changes in their department.
17. Managers are responsible for investigating accidents in their departments following the internal PIR process finding the root cause, and implementing the corrective and preventative actions. Any outcomes should be addressed with their team through Toolbox Talks or Team Meetings.
18. Promote a positive safety culture and encourage reporting of hazards and concerns.
19. Use environmentally sustainable practices in accordance with the organisation’s environmental policy.
20. Seek ways to reduce waste and energy usage in accordance with the organisation’s environmental objectives.
You may be required to complete other tasks, as required by the business.
Requirements
21. Relevant professional experience.
22. Proven/demonstratable experience in an engineering role.
23. Experience using CATIA V5, NX, Solidworks or CREO.
24. Design release and engineering change experience.
25. Project management experience.
26. Experience with basic and electronic metrology equipment.
27. Experience of ISO BMS is desirable but not essential.
