About the scheme
At NFU Mutual, our roots are firmly in farming, and we’re proud to stay true to those origins. But we’re also a business that’s growing fast in other areas – particularly commercial and high net worth – and that’s where our Sales team plays such an important role. Joining this team means you’ll not only gain valuable commercial expertise but also play a direct part in shaping our future growth.
We offer two types of graduate scheme within Sales: one based at our Head Office in Stratford-upon-Avon, and another within our regional teams across the UK. The regional teams work directly with our distribution network, building relationships and delivering on the ground, while our Head Office team takes a broader view, shaping overall strategies and direction.
Both schemes will give you the chance to work closely with our Agency Network – local branches that are central to our growth. By supporting them, you’ll help deliver even more for our customers and communities, ensuring we continue to succeed through personal, trusted connections.
This role falls under Insurance Distribution Directive requirements, and as a result, role holders will be required to demonstrate ongoing Continuous Professional Development in role, along with undergoing regular re-screening to show that they are of “Good Repute”. What you can expect
Regional Sales Scheme
During your first months, you’ll take part in training to learn about our products and how to meet customer needs. In year one, you’ll be actively selling personal insurance and working on regional projects. In year two, you’ll move on to training across our commercial and high net worth products, while taking on more complex business projects.
London / South East Scheme
The South East scheme has a particular focus on corporate leadership and strategy. You’ll be involved in strategic growth and business development initiatives, while expanding your technical knowledge through a series of projects. This region is home to agencies with significant commercial and high-net-worth growth potential, as well as our dedicated high-net-worth branch in Cobham. You’ll gain experience supporting high-profile operations in a fast-paced environment, helping our regional team with business-to-business relationship development.
Head Office Scheme
Our Head Office programme offers broad exposure across our business through 2–3 placements each year. You’ll support NFU Mutual in driving strategic growth and initiatives, while building strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Each placement is designed to maximise your exposure, with flexibility to explore areas that interest you. Throughout, you’ll work alongside experienced leaders committed to supporting your development.
Travel Requirements
For regional schemes, you’ll typically travel to agencies 3–4 days a week, with the rest of your time spent working from home. If you’re on the South East scheme, one of those days will be in London. Although our graduates are spread across the UK, we work hard to ensure you feel part of one team. You’ll join a national cohort, coming together regularly at Head Office for shared training and development sessions. This means you’ll build strong connections with your fellow graduates, while still working on regional projects unique to your area.
Your Future
These schemes can open doors to a wide range of roles across NFU Mutual. We’ll work with you to explore options and help you identify the path that’s right for you. You’ll strengthen your core insurance skills, work towards CII qualifications, and develop the competencies needed for a successful career. You’ll also be fully supported with a dedicated buddy, mentor, and a strong graduate network. As you near the end of the scheme, a careers coach will help guide your next steps.
It’s not all about work either. Our graduates get involved in a variety of extracurricular activities – from volunteering and organising charity or social events, to representing NFU Mutual at industry events – all in line with our ESG framework.
Application Process
If shortlisted, you’ll complete an online assessment designed to measure your potential for success, including your ability to learn and solve problems. Successful applicants will then be invited to a short video interview. The final stage is an in-person assessment centre, where you’ll take part in a group exercise, a role-specific exercise, and a skills-based interview. Assessment centres will run regionally between 15th and 18th December.

What we're looking for
To join this scheme, you’ll have obtained, or be working towards, a minimum degree classification of 2:1. You don’t need a degree in a particular area - we’re interested in your passion for learning, curiosity and your potential.

If you’re able to bring these, we can teach you the rest regardless of what degree you studied.
To be eligible for the regional schemes, you must have a full UK driving licence.
Work experience
If you’ve gained industry experience or completed a placement year during your degree, that’s fantastic! But don’t worry if you haven’t – it’s not a requirement for the scheme. What we do ask for is some previous work experience where you’ve had the opportunity to interact with people.
