Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have broad general surgical experience, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and flexibility to work as part of an integrated team. A specialist interest is desirable, with opportunities to develop this in collaboration with specialists in Glasgow and Highland. An interest in teaching and supporting our team of nurses, junior doctors, and students is also important.
About the Department and Location
The Surgery Department is based at Lorn & Islands Hospital, which offers comprehensive services including a 24-hour medical, surgical, and anesthetic service. Outreach clinics serve the surrounding community, including the islands of Islay and Mull.
Oban is renowned for its natural beauty, with ferry links to numerous islands and a vibrant culture of music and outdoor activities. It is a family-friendly area with good schools and reasonable property prices, offering a high quality of life with easy access to Glasgow, Stirling, and Perth within 2.5 hours.
Global Health Opportunity
This role offers a 3-year Global Citizens contract, including 10 weeks annually dedicated to global health projects, either in partner countries or supporting global health initiatives in Scotland. Support is provided by the Global Health Academy in Edinburgh, assisting with project identification, travel, and visa arrangements. Countries include Malawi, Zambia, and Rwanda.
