Job description
Our client, a key player in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a talented Manufacturing Engineer to join their Operations team in Sunbury on Thames, SRY. This is a permanent role within the Air Technology business unit, aimed at providing manufacturing engineering expertise to support both existing and new products, and to drive forward strategic Lean initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
2. Collaborate with manufacturing cell leaders, the lean co-ordinator, and design engineering to enhance process efficiencies
3. Generate and maintain manufacturing documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Routings, and Visual Factory displays
4. Create and maintain routings within the MRP system
5. Implement lean manufacturing methods such as one-piece flow lines and visual factory to reduce rework/scrap, throughput times, and work in progress
6. Utilise basic improvement tools such as 5S, 7 Wastes, Visual Management, and Standardised Work to support balanced assembly lines
7. Support layout changes and involve facilities and maintenance teams in the process
8. Record and analyse production data to focus on key issues and support manufacturing cells
9. Initiate and lead improvement projects and capital expenditure (CAPEX) to facilitate new process and product introductions
10. Work with Engineering on product documentation modifications and parts obsolescence
11. Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support to ensure customer schedule adherence
12. Lead teams to develop process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and implement changes
13. Manage new product introductions and legacy product manufacturing through all stages of the product life cycle
14. Mentor cell leaders to enhance methods of manufacturing assembly and testing
Job Requirements:
15. Proven experience in a similar manufacturing engineering role
16. Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and implementing standard work processes
17. Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and substantial experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment
18. Proficient in problem-solving techniques, including 5 Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, and 8D analysis
19. Proven track record of generating and maintaining process maps, PFMEAs, and control plans
20. Excellent time management skills with a history of planning and managing complex, long-term projects
21. Significant IT skills including Microsoft Office suite
22. Experience in the aerospace manufacturing or a closely related industry
23. Methodical, logical approach with strong attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset
24. Team player with the ability to work in a concurrent engineering team
25. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
26. Ability to present and communicate effectively to small groups
27. Self-motivated individual with strong leadership qualities and the ability to handle pressure
28. Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and process control techniques
