Job Summary

The UHBW Department of General Anaesthesia sits within the Division of Surgery; however the wider anaesthesia service bridges four clinical divisions of UHBW: Surgery (general anaesthesia and critical care), Weston Division, Specialised Services (cardiac anaesthesia) and Women’s and Children’s (paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia).
The Department of Anaesthesia is seeking consultants in general anaesthesia to join the team based at Weston General Hospital. The post will be offered at 10 PAs. The successful applicant will join the team in supporting a busy and high‑quality service providing general anaesthesia in a small hospital, with the support of, and close work with, the wider department across all UHBW sites.
The post will be based at Weston General Hospital and will support the provision of general anaesthesia services for a variety of specialties, including upper and lower GI surgery, trauma & orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, pre‑operative assessment and acute pain. There will be the opportunity to work across the UHBW sites; however applicants should expect the majority of their work to focus on Weston.
Responsibilities
* Provide general anaesthesia across a range of surgical specialties including upper and lower GI surgery, trauma & orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, pre‑operative assessment and acute pain.
* Work across UHBW sites, with the majority of work focused on Weston General Hospital.
* Participate in daytime sessions, weekend on‑call rota (approximately 1:8), evening sessions (approximately 1:8) covering emergency operations until 20:00, and overnight on‑call at Weston.
* Contribute to the pre‑operative assessment service and acute pain service.
* Support teaching and training in line with UHBW’s strong tradition of education.
Qualifications and Experience
* Hold FRCA (UK) or equivalent and be within six months of your CCT date at the time of interview, or have CESR.
* Be prepared to work flexibly to ensure smooth service delivery.
