Job Title: Maternity Cover - Head of Marketing and Communications Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 Location: Leeds Reports to: CEO Start date: Mid-August 2025 Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced and proactive individual with strong experience in digital marketing to join our team as Maternity Cover for the Head of Marketing and Communications. In this role, you will be responsible for leading our marketing and communications initiatives, ensuring the successful promotion of our brand and activities. Your expertise in digital marketing will be crucial in shaping online engagement strategies, optimising campaigns, and leveraging digital channels to connect with our audiences effectively. As a small team, we require someone who will take a hands-on approach and actively support the team in execution and delivery. As the leading charitable organisation for sports and physical activity coaches in the UK, our vision is to build a healthier and happier nation through great coaching. Just as coaches are there for their participants, we're here for the coach, providing membership, learning and development, and services to support them in their practice and everyday lives. In this role, you'll drive our mission forward by shaping and executing marketing strategies particularly digital initiatives to support coaches nationwide. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the Marketing and Communications team, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental and organisational goals. Oversee the management of the Head of Campaigns to ensure alignment between the Marketing and Campaigns departments on internal and external activity. Oversee the management of the Creative Services Manager to ensure the delivery of high-quality design and brand materials. Oversee the management of the Events Manager ensuring effective coordination and execution of events. Manage relationships with external agencies, including our PR agency and digital marketing consultant, to optimise our marketing efforts. Coordinate the organisation and promotion of our annual events such as the UK Coaching Awards. Manage the marketing and communications budget, allocating resources effectively to maximise impact and achieve objectives. Report to the UK Coaching and UK Coaching Solutions Board on marketing campaign activity, such as UK Coaching Week, and digital marketing activities and conversions related to the UK Coaching Club and Fitness Insurance. Maintain and enhance the positioning of the UK Coaching brand within the marketplace ensuring it aligns with our purpose of being “here for the coach.” Lead and support the Digital Marketing Strategy for the organisation with the execution of the UK Coaching Club and 1st4sport digital marketing plans and drive membership conversions. Oversee the launch and communication of our new products. Support the leadership team in implementing the organisational strategy and provide regular departmental updates. Maintain strong relationships with our stakeholders and funders' marketing teams to ensure alignment and collaboration. Assist direct reports in their work programmes and provide guidance as needed. Offer marketing support and work with other departments and budget holders on marketing activity. Requirements: A minimum of five years in a marketing/communications role. Experience of managing multi teams. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support a small team. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to organisational goals and drive positive change. Hands-on approach with a willingness to support the team in execution and delivery. Familiarity with digital marketing tools and techniques. Experience in promoting an organisation through PR and media relations, demonstrating the ability to generate positive coverage and manage media enquiries effectively. Proven experience in budget management and cost control, with the ability to allocate resources effectively and optimise expenditures to achieve objectives. Demonstrated experience in planning and executing targeted marketing campaigns, including segmentation, messaging, and channel selection to reach specific audiences effectively. Experience in delivering digital marketing initiatives across various platforms, including social media, email marketing, and website optimisation, to drive engagement and conversions. Knowledge of Sprout Social for social media management, GA4 for web analytics, and digital marketing best practices including SEO, PPC, and other relevant strategies. Brand marketing experience, with a strong understanding of brand positioning, messaging, and identity. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet tight deadlines. Experience in the sport and physical activity sector is advantageous but not essential.
