Senior Clinical fellow in Anaesthesia - 12 Months Fixed Term

We have an exciting opportunity to join the ESTH Anaesthetics Team. Applicants must be UK Doctors with GMC registration and previous NHS experience, Cross site working will be required and the successful applicant will be part of a 1 in 8 rota .

The Anaesthetics department is a friendly and supportive one. We have achieved ACSA Accreditation from the Royal College of Anaesthetists and are extremely proud of this achievement. We welcome innovation and will support change where it improves care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

Duties of the Post:

·Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the specialty and referred to the specialty.

·Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.

·Communication with other team members as appropriate.

·Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.

·Abide by the Clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the Trust.

·To make sure that the guidance from the General Medical Council on Good Medical Practice is at the centre of your clinical practice.

·To keep up to date in Anaesthetics knowledge by Continuous Medical Education in the best interest of the patient.

·Although a timetable will be provided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interests of patient care and to meet the needs of the department as decided by the general manager and coordinating surgeon.

·To contribute to the wider corporate and organizational needs of the Trust as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Department:

The Anaesthetic department at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust covers a wide variety of elective, day case, and emergency surgery on two main sites. We currently cover one Intensive care unit and one High Dependency Unit, two obstetrics units and provide elective anaesthesia at both sites. Emergency surgery of all specialties is concentrated at St Helier Hospital, while the majority of the elective work is performed at Epsom General Hospital. The post holder will be encouraged to attend weekly educational departmental meetings which occur on both sites.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. MBBS or equivalent
2. Registration with GMC

Desirable criteria

3. Recognised RCoA approved anaesthetic qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

4. Minimum 24 months experience in anaesthetics (international experience considered)
5. Provider or instructor in ATLS, APLS, ALS or similar

Desirable criteria

6. 6 months UK experience in anaesthetics

Non-clinical skills

Essential criteria

7. Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements

Teaching/Research/Governanace

Essential criteria

8. Understanding of clinical governance and participation in audit
9. Current successful appraisal and revalidation

Desirable criteria

10. Evidence of research and/or publications
