Overview
Perform phlebotomy and other duties within the laboratory supporting other staff within the team whilst providing optimum patient care.
Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services provides phlebotomy services at 6 main sites: University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, City of Coventry Health Centre in Coventry, Hospital of St Cross in Rugby, George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton and South Warwick Foundation Trust in Warwick with Out-patient and In-Patient services. A number of Community Clinics, GP Clinics and Domiciliary services are also supported, covering Coventry, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Birmingham.
We are currently looking for Phlebotomists to work at our site in Hospital of St Cross in Rugby. We are aiming to increase access to our services for patients and introduce both In-patient and Out-patient services across 7 days. Applicants will be expected to work shift patterns to support these services going forwards, including early, late, weekend and Bank Holiday shifts.
The recruitment day will be held on 15th October 2025. Please note that this position is not eligible for sponsorship. Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP. Full UK driving licence is required as you may be asked to work on other sites and transfer items between them, although a main ‘base’ site will be identified. Full and Part time positions are available – full flexibility is a must and successful applicants will be expected to work a variety of shifts. Responsibilities
1. Responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, clinics, GP surgeries and homes as specified by the supervisor.
2. Responsible for the safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps.
3. Undertake reception duties within the department to welcome and advise patients and staff as required by supervisor.
4. Sort and identify specimens received.
5. Prepare samples for testing using separation techniques such as centrifugation and tapping off.
6. Track and record samples to ensure relevant information is available for the supervisor.
7. Monitor and replenish medical stock.
8. Undertake agreed clinical and non-clinical tasks following training, ensuring referral to appropriately trained staff as required.
9. Support less experienced staff in their orientation to the department and role.
10. Participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve personal objectives.
11. Participate in the provision of an out-of-hours laboratory service as required.
12. Assist with the provision of high-quality service for staff and patients.
13. Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
14. Undertake duties as prescribed by the Deputy Laboratory Manager in accordance with this grade of post.
