BACKGROUND Rangers Football Club, formed in 1872, is one of the world’s longest established and most successful clubs, having won 55 League titles, 34 Scottish Cups, 28 League Cups and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972. Playing at the iconic 51,700 seat Ibrox Stadium and benefitting from a world-class 37-acre training facility, the club has been a leading light in Scottish, British and European football for decades. The club benefits from a famously loyal support and the high volume of season ticket uptake means the club features in the top 19 average attendances in Europe. It is estimated that Rangers has a global fanbase of 4m, half of which are based in the UK. THE ROLE We are seeking a Pool Plant & Facilities Technician to join the Facilities department at the club. This role will ensure that the club's spa facilities, which includes hot and cold plunge pools and hydrotherapy pool, are safe, compliant and operate efficiently whilst maintaining exceptional water quality and plant reliability in accordance PWTAG, HSE and manufacturer guidance. The successful candidate will also deliver both planned preventative and reactive maintenance across wider mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems, provide general facilities maintenance support and coordinate specialist contractors to undertake statutory and preventative compliance tasks such as water hygiene flushing and temperature monitoring. This role requires accurate record-keeping within the Club’s CAFM system, a strong commitment to health and safety standards, and the flexibility to support high-performance athlete rehabilitation schedules and ensure facilities are fully operational and match-day ready. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Water quality & pool plant operations Operate, monitor and optimise all pool plant, including circulation pumps, filters, dosing systems (chlorine/bromine), pH correction, UV/ozone (where fitted), heat exchangers and strainers. Test water at required frequencies using approved methods (e.g., DPD comparators and calibrated meters) and maintain parameters within PWTAG/HSE ranges for pH, alkalinity, free/combined disinfectant residuals, cyanuric acid (if used), temperature and turbidity. Complete daily opening/closing routines: backwashing as scheduled, balance tank inspections, chemical stock checks, safety interlock tests, and cleanliness of wet areas/plant rooms. Calibrate and care for dosing probes/sensors; investigate alarms and trends, making safe adjustments or escalating when outside normal range. Implement incident response procedures (e.g., faecal/vomit contamination, clarity failures, suspected microbiological issues), including isolation, hyperchlorination, retesting and communication. Compliance, safety & record keeping Work to PWTAG Code of Practice and HSE guidance (HSG282 for spa-pools; ACOP L8/HSG274 Part 2 for hot & cold water systems). Maintain complete, legible records: test results, plant readings, corrective actions, backwash logs, chemical deliveries, safety data sheets, permits, and incident reports. Arrange routine microbiological sampling via UKAS-accredited laboratories and action results in line with risk assessment and guidance. Handle chemicals safely (COSHH): receive, store and dose in line with SDS, carrying out risk assessments and ensuring appropriate PPE is available and used. Keep plant rooms tidy, well-lit, ventilated and accessible; ensure guards, emergency stops and signage are in place. Ensure compliance is auditable and resilient to HSE or local authority inspection, exceeding typical leisure standards Water hygiene & contractor coordination Manage specialist water hygiene providers: monthly outlets flushing, sentinel temperature checks, TMV servicing, calorifier inspections and pasteurisation cycles, sampling, and remedial works. Review method statements/permits, supervise contractors, verify service sheets and close out actions in the CAFM system. Support Legionella risk assessment reviews and maintain the water hygiene logbook. Provide leadership in contractor supervision, ensuring compliance with statutory and club standards. Planned preventive maintenance (PPM) & reactive works Deliver PPMs and first-line fault finding across site M&E: HVAC filters and checks, pumps/valves, minor plumbing, basic electrics (e.g., lamp replacements, accessories), door hardware, fixtures/fittings, joinery, tiling/painting touch-ups, and fabric repairs. Support small works and minor projects; raise parts orders; ensure spares/consumables are stocked. Use the CAFM system to receive/close work orders, update asset data and report hazards/defects. Support readiness for elite sports training facilities where failure may disrupt athlete performance. Operational support & teamwork Liaise daily with Sports Science/Medical, Performance, and Venue teams to plan pool availability around training and rehab priorities. Prepare pools for use ahead of team schedules; minimise downtime through proactive maintenance and rapid response. Contribute to matchday/event readiness checks and emergency response, as required. Promote a positive safety culture; participate in toolbox talks and periodic drills. Provide proactive input to continuous improvement programmes across Facilities & Operations. THE CANDIDATE Essential qualifications & training Pool Plant Operator qualification (e.g., STA Level 3 Award in Pool Plant Operations, or equivalent CIMSPA/PWTAG-recognised). Pool Water Testing certificate (e.g., STA Level 2) and demonstrable competence with DPD testing and digital photometers. Legionella awareness training aligned to ACOP L8/HSG274 Part 2; understanding of outlet flushing, sentinel monitoring and TMV servicing. COSHH awareness for pool chemicals; manual handling; safe use of work equipment (PUWER). UK full driving licence (site-to-site travel) and the right to work in the UK. Desirable qualifications COSHH awareness for pool chemicals; manual handling; safe use of work equipment (PUWER). ISPE membership/Technician status (TnISPE) or other recognised pool engineering credential. IOSH Working Safely / Managing Safely. First Aid at Work; AED awareness. Confined spaces and working at height awareness (as applicable to plant areas). Willing to complete basic scaffold inspection course. Experience Hands-on operation of spa pools and/or hydrotherapy pools in a leisure, performance sport, hotel or healthcare setting. Routine and corrective water chemistry management (pH, alkalinity, disinfectant residuals, temperature). Operation/maintenance of dosing systems, filters (media/cartridge), backwashing routines and clarity control. Coordinating water hygiene contractors and closing out remedial actions; maintaining logbooks/CAFM records. Broad facilities maintenance experience across M&E and building fabric. Experience of operating within high-performance sports facilities (preferred). Knowledge, skills & behaviours Strong diagnostic mindset; able to interpret trends and take timely corrective action. Competent with digital tools: BMS/plant interfaces, handheld testers, and CAFM/mobile apps. Clear, accurate record keeping and communication. Customer focus and calm under pressure; flexible to support team schedules and events. Commitment to continuous improvement and high presentation standards.
