The team comprises Ward Manager, Junior Sisters, Staff Nurses, Nursing Auxiliaries, Ward Clerk, Ward Administrator, Ward Assistant, and Hotel Services Staff. The wider team includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Medical Staff. You will be a vital part of this multidisciplinary team, supporting nursing staff to improve, maintain, and deliver high standards of care, promoting patients' health and well-being through assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Joining our supportive team, you will be encouraged to voice your opinions within the team and through our Healthcare Support Worker Council, which listens to staff, facilitates discussions, and contributes to improvements. You will receive stroke-specific and mandatory training.
Key Responsibilities
1. Undertake direct patient care under the delegation of the Registered Nurse and document care provided.
2. Assist in patient reception and admission processes.
3. Follow individual care plans, including:
4. Bed making
5. Assisting with personal hygiene (hair, nails, oral hygiene, shaving)
6. Preventing pressure ulcers and managing continence
7. Supporting elimination needs, including catheter care
8. Assisting with rehabilitation alongside physiotherapy and occupational therapy
9. Supporting meal choices and recording intake
10. Feeding patients, encouraging fluid intake, and maintaining fluid balance charts
11. Checking controlled drugs with the Registered Nurse as required
12. Completing nutritional assessments and weighing patients
13. Monitoring and recording fluid and food intake, weights, and other relevant data under supervision
14. Competently using equipment following training
15. Escorting patients to other departments or hospitals for investigations
