As a Process Engineer within Rolls-Royce's Submarines business, you will become part of the nuclear industry's leading edge. You'll have the opportunity to use your skills and experience to the full, in an environment in which excellence is always paramount.
We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
What you will be doing:
You will be designing and developing process solutions, including water and steam at elevated temperatures and pressures, and waste treatment, for submarine and shore-based process systems. This includes design for safety, manufacture, build and commissioning.
* Lead the development of requirements and design options for engineering packages.
* Basic performance analysis of fluid systems using commercial and in-house developed thermal-hydraulic codes e.g. fluid flow analysis of pipework systems, to determine systems losses, pressure drops, pump design selection, pressure vessel sizing and heat exchanger sizing.
* Design substantiation and safety justification of process systems, including use of evaluation techniques such as hazard identification (HAZOP), fault tree analysis, FMECAs and implementation of As Low As reasonably Practicable principles.
* Ensuring that principles of inherent safety, hierarchy of controls and simplification are embedded into the design.
* Definition of operating procedures and component specifications.
* Support to submarine and facility design, build and commissioning activities.
* Maintenance of in-service design justifications and response to in-service events and queries.
Who we’re looking for:
At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
* Ideally Process/Fluid Systems experience in the Nuclear Sector, however experience within Chemical, Oil/Gas, Pharmaceutical, Food or other relevant Industries will be considered.
* A strong understanding of fluid mechanics / dynamics fundamental theory.
* A degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering (other science and engineering-based disciplines will be considered).
* A basic process engineering and mathematical solver software ability.
* Collaborative approach with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders of varying disciplines and technical ability.
We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives.
And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
