A specialist teaching role where support, relationships and sustainability genuinely matter
Are you a qualified KS2 teacher with experience or interest in SEND and SEMH?
Are you looking for a role where children are known, behaviour systems are shared, and leaders understand the realities of specialist teaching?
If so, we would very much like to hear from you.
Esland Shropshire School is a growing specialist provision supporting children and young people aged 8–18 with SEND and SEMH needs. We are seeking a committed and skilled SEN Teacher to work primarily with KS2 pupils as part of a highly supportive, multidisciplinary team.
At Esland, we are passionate about changing children’s lives for the better. Through our Turning the Curve model, we create nurturing, inclusive environments where pupils are helped to overcome barriers to learning and build a more positive future at a pace that works for them.
The role:
As a SEN Teacher, you will play a key part in delivering meaningful, well‑planned learning that places relationships, emotional safety and progress at its heart.
You will be supported to:
* Plan and deliver engaging lessons across core subjects, tailored to individual needs
* Work with Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) to support both academic and personal development
* Contribute to EHCP reviews and PEP meetings with clear leadership guidance
* Create a calm, safe and inclusive classroom environment
* Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, families and external professionals
* Promote safeguarding and pupil wellbeing, with strong systems and senior support in place
While flexibility and teamwork are central to working in a specialist setting, responsibilities will always be appropriate to the role and backed by senior leaders, ensuring expectations are realistic and sustainable.
Although Esland Shropshire School supports pupils aged 8–18, this post is firmly focused on KS2 learners, with curriculum planning and classroom practice aligned accordingly.
We know that SEND teaching is demanding, and we take staff wellbeing seriously. You will benefit from:
* Small class sizes and consistent staffing
* Experienced teaching assistants and pastoral colleagues
* Clear behaviour systems and shared responsibility across the school
* Leadership ownership of safeguarding, EHCP processes and escalation
* Protected non‑contact time and realistic curriculum expectations
You will not be expected to “do it all alone”.
What we can offer a SEN Teacher:
Financial security
* Competitive salary (£41,137 – £44,786), reviewed annually
* Esland education pension scheme — double matched up to 20% (total contribution up to 30%)
* Company sick pay
* Life insurance (4x basic salary)
Wellbeing & support
* Comprehensive, paid induction and ongoing training
* Employee Assistance Programme (including Online GP 24/7)
* Cycle to work scheme
* Green Hybrid and EV car scheme
Development & progression
* Clear career development opportunities (100+ internal promotions last year)
* Monthly recognition awards
* Refer a Friend bonus (£500)
* Access to E‑Together benefits and discounts
Most importantly, the opportunity to make a genuine, lasting difference to a child’s life within a supportive team.
Requirements for a SEN Teacher:
Essential:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree
* Experience teaching KS2 across a range of subjects
* An understanding of SEND, particularly SEMH
* Strong inclusive teaching and behaviour‑support strategies
* A clear commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare
Desirable:
* A qualification or degree in psychology
* A higher qualification or equivalent
You will be someone who:
* Is calm, reflective and relationship‑focused
* Has high expectations, balanced with empathy and realism
* Communicates well and works positively as part of a team
* Is committed to learning, development and good practice
* Is motivated by making a difference, not ticking boxes
Successful employment is subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS, right‑to‑work and reference checks in line with Safer Recruitment practices.
