Job Summary
Specialist Pharmacist – Cancer Services (Band 8a) – Medway NHS Foundation Trust, Windmill Road, Gillingham (ME7 5NY). The post supports the Trust’s vision of delivering the best of care by the best people, and involves working closely with the Lead Pharmacist – Clinical Services.
Responsibilities
* Operationally manage ward rostering and cover.
* Lead the clinical team on drug shortages.
* Oversee and improve clinical pharmacy services, organising rotas and developing prescribing guidelines.
* Provide specialist clinical advice and training to healthcare professionals.
* Develop and implement a clinically focused medical education training programme in line with the KMMS and KCH curricula.
* Monitor drug expenditure, identify cost‑saving opportunities and promote cost‑effective prescribing.
* Lead and participate in pharmacy research projects and audit activities.
* Provide strong leadership by managing and developing clinical pharmacy staff, overseeing recruitment and ensuring compliance with HR and professional standards.
Qualifications & Professional Status
* Master’s Degree in Pharmacy.
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (or eligible to be).
* Specialist post‑graduate qualification such as a clinical diploma or equivalent experience.
* Independent prescriber not essential.
Knowledge & Experience
* Expert knowledge of pharmacy services and high level knowledge of haematology and oncology.
* Ability to apply all aspects of regulatory legislation and guidelines.
* Significant experience in clinical haematology, oncology and aseptic services.
* Proven track record of delivering responsibilities and objectives on time.
* Experience providing a clinical service to the specialist area (Cancer services).
* Demonstrated experience managing or supervising a range of projects.
* Experience motivating staff, providing appraisal and feedback.
Skills
* Analytical thinking – identify problems, analyse root causes and propose effective solutions.
* Able to solve complex and ambiguous problems by advanced reasoning and sound technical judgment.
* Manage and support others; plan, organise and deliver services.
* Supply‑chain management capability.
* Advanced IT skills – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
* Influencing and negotiating skills.
* Experience dealing with highly complex and contentious information.

Salary: £55,690 to £62,682 per annum (pro‑rata)
