Electrically Biased Shift Technician (Multi-Skilled Engineer) Location: Stockport Reporting to: Engineering Maintenance Manager Working Pattern: 5 days out of 7 on rotating shifts (including bank holidays, subject to business needs) About the Role We are seeking a multi-skilled, electrically biased Shift Technician to join our Engineering team. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of production, engineering, and site service assets. You will play a key part in supporting production operations, ensuring plant reliability, and driving engineering excellence. Key Responsibilities * Maintain, repair, and improve production and site service assets to high operational standards. * Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults, including PLC and automated systems. * Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and respond effectively to breakdowns. * Support continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis, and lean projects. * Record maintenance activities and spare part usage via paper and computerised systems. * Ensure engineering workshops, service areas, and production spaces are maintained to audit-ready standards. * Collaborate with production teams to optimise line performance, reduce downtime, and support changeovers (SMED and lean activities). * Actively participate in new product introductions, capital projects, and site upgrades. * Mentor and support apprentices in their engineering development. * Uphold compliance with Health & Safety policies, COSHH, PUWER, EAWR, LOLER, and BS7671 regulations. * Demonstrate flexibility in covering shifts, holidays, sickness, and business requirements. Person Specification To be successful in this role, you will need: * A flexible, hands-on, and results-driven approach. * Recognised electrical qualification with strong electrical and mechanical skills. * Experience within food/FMCG or equivalent process industries. * Strong IT literacy, including fault diagnosis via laptop/PLC systems. * Knowledge of lean manufacturing methods and continuous improvement tools. * Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making ability. * Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – able to work collaboratively across teams. * Determination, resilience, and a passion for high performance. * Ability to interpret engineering documentation in English.
