The Role The school is seeking an organised, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic Librarian to manage all aspects of the school library and play a key role in promoting literacy and research skills. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about reading, education, and resource management. The Librarian will oversee the library’s daily operations, manage stock and digital resources, support curriculum departments, and lead initiatives that promote reading for pleasure. You will also work with students during study sessions, conduct literacy interventions, and support independent research, particularly for GCSE and A Level students. Key Responsibilities • Managing the school library’s daily operations, opening hours, and supervision • Supporting students with research, referencing, and academic study skills • Promoting reading for pleasure through clubs, competitions, and displays • Managing book loans, cataloguing systems, returns, and overdue processes • Maintaining digital library platforms and online catalogues • Selecting, ordering, and organising new stock based on curriculum needs • Supporting English and Humanities departments with targeted reading programmes • Supervising students during break, lunch, and study periods • Supporting literacy interventions and small-group reading sessions • Maintaining a calm, safe, and academically focused study environment • Liaising with teachers, Heads of Department, and pastoral teams regarding student needs Person Specification • Experience in a library, school, or educational environment (desirable) • Strong literacy and communication skills • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail • Ability to engage students positively and support learning • Knowledge of library systems or willingness to undertake training • Passion for books, reading, and promoting a culture of learning • Professional, proactive, and committed to student development Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible.
