About the Role
The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is seeking a consultant colleague with a broad interest in general plastic surgery, including skin and trauma. The successful candidate will join an established team of eighteen consultants, contributing to the delivery of a comprehensive plastic surgery service across elective and emergency care. The role will support the ongoing development of services in skin oncology, soft tissue reconstruction, and trauma management.
Main Duties
* Elective Theatre lists day case surgery will take place on the Pinderfields and Dewsbury sites.
* Inpatient and trauma operating will take place on the Pinderfields site.
* General on-call duties will be shared between ten colleagues (1.4 PA).
* Weekdays – Monday to Thursday 1 in 9.
* Weekends – 1 in 9.
* Participate in consultant of the week covering general trauma 1 in 11 weeks.
Professional Activities
You will be required to support Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPA included in the core 10 PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service. Examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or a departmental leadership role.
Working Environment
* A dedicated office space on the Pinderfields site, with access to IT facilities on peripheral sites.
* Administrative support, which is accessible via the Plastic Surgery Departmental secretaries.
Essential Person Specification Requirements
* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastics or within six months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent) by date of interview.
* Medical degree from a recognised medical school.
* FRCS or equivalent.
* Sufficient experience at senior level to be placed on the Specialist Register.
* Computer literate.
* Fully accredited by the college and acceptable to the college representative.
* Capable of delivering service without direct supervision.
* Ability to work flexibly within a team.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
* Good time management.
* Ability to contribute to the development of the department, the Trust and its services.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and patients.
* Caring and compassionate.
* Flexible and adaptable.
* Good team player.
* Willingness to learn all aspects of the hospital’s internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies.
* Physically able to carry out the duties as specified and able to evidence competencies.
* Holds a valid driving licence.
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
