The London borough of Newham is working to ensure Newham is a place where there is greater investment in public spaces, more opportunities for younger people, more jobs and a decrease in benefit dependency, quality housing for residents, a greater choice when accessing council services and high quality health care delivered around individual needs.

Through this scheme we’re offering residents a chance to start a hands on career in a skilled trade helping maintain and improve the homes and buildings across the borough, while building valuable experience and qualifications.

About the Job

As a Electrical Apprentice within our team, you’ll support and learn key skills within your specific trade.

You’ll be delivering quality repair and maintenance services that directly benefit Newham residents, helping us maintain safe, sustainable homes and neighbourhoods. We aim to provide a high quality service in line with industry standards and are committed to developing future talent within the borough through apprenticeship opportunities.

About the Training

You will complete a Electrical Apprenticeship Standard. Please see below standard for more information regarding this apprenticeship:

The Apprenticeship:

1. A two year fixed term contract
2. Earn the London Living Wage while training
3. Formal training with a recognised provider
4. A dedicated line manager and mentor
5. Being part of a wider apprentice cohort
6. Support to improve your CV and interview skills
7. Opportunities for additional development
8. 21 days’ annual leave plus 3 extra days over the festive break
9. 8 public holidays per year
10. A 37 hour work week
11. Health and safety training and PPE provided

About You

You will be a Newham resident and have a desire to make a difference in the local community and with a commitment to improving their skills.

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

12. GCSEs, or equivalent qualifications
13. Good communication skills
14. Ability to work well as part of a team and use own initiative.
15. A commitment to deliver high quality services to Newham residents and a knowledge of local issues.
16. Organisational skills with the ability to focus on achieving targets.
17. Reliability and punctuality
18. A commitment to undertake and complete a qualification via a structured apprenticeship training programme.

 About The Training

You will be undertaking a professional apprenticeship standard.

To successfully complete the Apprenticeship, not only must you meet the performance standards required by your line manager, but you will also need to meet the apprenticeship learning requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

19. Attending and participating in all classes and workshops on and offsite
20. Learning, developing and demonstrating practical skills,
21. Completing all tests and assignments
22. Observing all employee policies, processes and procedures,
23. Delivering presentations to colleagues and other stakeholders.
24. You should be well-organised, flexible, and willing to assist wherever possible.
