Overview

Position: Self Employed Personal Assistant / PA Carer Support Worker

Job reference: PC10/09/KE13

Area: Little Stanion (Corby NN18 Area)

Hours: Starting at 16 hours a week, with the possibility of additional hours on weekends and for holiday/sickness cover. Start time from around 12 noon. Availability Monday to Friday may be required to offer cover to other support workers, with some Saturdays and Sundays also required. Permanent long term role. Up to 7 days a week, various shifts. Possible job share will be considered.

Rate: £16.00 to £18.00 per hour dependent on experience


About the role

A contract to provide services is offered to fulfil the duties of a Personal Assistant to a blind person to enable them to live as independently as possible. It is important to have very good verbal communication skills. The contracted person must be officially registered as self-employed with HMRC and be responsible for reporting and paying their own income tax and national insurance contributions. Local residence near the work location is preferred.

The client is looking for a reliable, caring, respectful, non-judgmental and friendly person who is calm and has a good sense of humour.

You must be able to drive and be comfortable around animals, especially dogs and cats. You will assist with walking multiple dogs, cleaning, appointments, shopping, meal preparation and planning, reading information, completing forms, and a broad range of tasks to help the client maintain independence at home.

You must have liability insurance (proof required) and a DBS or be willing to undertake one at your own cost. You must have further ID and valid references. Ideally you will have experience in the care field working directly in people’s homes. You should be resilient, observant, able to follow instructions, and have strong verbal and written communication skills, be fluent in English, and have a proven track record of reliability and punctuality with a willingness to go the extra mile. Training and guidance will be provided. Trust and total confidentiality with respect to all matters is essential. The role may suit someone with experience as a dog walker, kennel worker, veterinary nurse, or someone who has provided care in the community for adults of various ages and abilities.

Main Duties

* Assisting with the care of the guide dog and other pets, including walking, feeding and cleaning.
* Assisting with basic upkeep and tidying of the garden and outdoor areas.
* Helping with household tasks requiring sighted assistance (sewing, ironing, laundry, cleaning and tidying to maintain a habitable, safe environment).
* Preparing meals, including labeling food containers and organizing them to aid a blind person.
* Sighted assistance with setting up and using various equipment and technology within the home and office.
* Assisting with all written material, correspondence, and completing forms as necessary.
* Guiding and providing verbal information to a blind person about the environment indoors and when travelling.
* Driving Client to and from events/venues, medical and vet appointments, and shopping trips.
* Assisting with correspondence and reading/writing tasks, such as reading information on food packaging, cleaning products, descriptions of items and signage.
* Assisting with animal care and vet trips as required.
* Supporting attendance at meetings and social events where necessary.
* Any other task reasonably asked of a Personal Assistant.


Additional information

PA support worker to assist a registered blind person to maintain independence in and out of the home. Includes caring for cats and dogs; you must be comfortable around many animals.

Competent driving and use of a reliable car are required. Mileage expenses will be paid for these duties (excluding commute). Local knowledge and access to SatNav are essential. Being comfortable around many animals is essential.

Flexibility is needed to provide services at times requested with reasonable notice.
