Paediatric Phlebotomist (Band 3) – Part Time
Hours: 16 hours per week. 8am - 12noon. (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday)

Are you a caring and skilled healthcare worker looking to make a real difference to children and young people in the community? We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Paediatric Phlebotomist to join our friendly Integrated Community Paediatric Services (ICPS) Reactive Care Team at Breightmet Health Centre.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting children, families, and colleagues across the division by delivering safe and effective phlebotomy services in a community setting.
About the Role
As a Paediatric Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for the safe and accurate collection of blood samples from children and young people through venepuncture and capillary sampling. You will work as part of a dedicated team, ensuring each child and family feels supported and reassured throughout the process.
Your daily duties will include:
* Taking blood samples accurately and safely, selecting the correct bottles for investigations.
* Ensuring accurate patient identification and gaining informed consent.
* Providing aftercare and reassurance to children and young people following procedures.
* Handling samples correctly and transporting them to designated collection points.
* Organising and restocking clinic areas, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection control.
* Using IT systems to record data, arrange appointments, and liaise with GPs and admin teams.
* Supporting families with clear information and signposting where necessary.
You will also be expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality, infection control, and health and safety procedures, ensuring the highest standards of care are delivered at all times.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
* Has experience working with children and young people, ideally within a healthcare setting.
* Has previous phlebotomy experience and the confidence to carry out venepuncture and capillary sampling.
* Holds an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) and is literate, numerate, and computer literate.
* Is able to work calmly under pressure, with strong interpersonal skills and a caring, empathetic manner.
* Can work independently and as part of a wider team, with excellent communication skills.
* Holds a full, clean driving licence and is willing to travel within the community.
A flexible, positive approach to work is essential, along with a willingness to handle blood and body fluids. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required for this role.
