A note from the Founders
Oxford Dynamics is at an inflection point.
We operate in some of the most complex and high‑stakes environments in the world - defence, national security, AI and robotics. The decisions we make now, will define not just how fast we grow, but who we become.
You will work closely with all the team. You will be trusted with judgment calls. You will influence the business. And you will see the impact of your work every day in the work we do.
If you are excited by ownership, pace and purpose - and by building something that genuinely matters - we would love to hear from you.
Who We Are
Founded in 2020, Oxford Dynamics (OD) is a fast‑growing UK deep‑tech company developing AI and robotic systems designed to operate in mission‑critical environments.
Our flagship AVIS (A Very Intelligent System) AI framework fuses multi‑modal data - text, imagery, telemetry and sensor feeds - enabling operators to interrogate complex information at speed and make better decisions under pressure. Our STRIDER robotic platform performs autonomous tasks in hazardous environments, protecting people while extending operational reach.
Our ambition is simple but demanding: to converge AI and robotics so machines can sense, understand and act in complex, real‑world environments.
We work with defence and security organisations internationally to help protect nations, infrastructure and lives.
What you will be doing here/ why this role matters
Oxford Dynamics is a small team who rely on a collaborative and positive approach and so the right attitude for this role is equally as important as experience. We are at an important stage and time in our growth, and as a Senior AI Generative Robotics Engineer you will be an essential part of our success.
You’ll work at the cutting edge of agentic and generative AI, building systems that move beyond lab demos and into real-world deployment at pace. At Oxford Dynamics, you’ll have the freedom to experiment in a fast-moving environment, the responsibility to deliver, and the opportunity to shape how multi-agent AI systems operate in complex, constrained, and high-trust environments.
If you’re excited by agent orchestration, VLLMs, and deploying AI where it matters, this role is built for you!
Key Responsibilities
Agentic AI & Generative Systems
* Design, build, and optimise complex multi-agent AI systems (4+ agents) using LangGraph or equivalent agentic frameworks for edge-deployed, mobile robotic platforms.
* Develop agent reasoning, planning, memory, and tool-use pipelines combining LLMs, VLLMs, and perception modules for edge deployed robotic systems.
* Integrate vision-language models (VLMs/VLLMs) for perception, grounding, and decision-making in robotic systems.
* Lead applied R&D for robotics across LLMs, VLLMs, and agent orchestration, translating research into robust, deployable systems for robots.
* Build production-grade AI pipelines spanning data ingestion, model inference, agent coordination, and feedback loops.
* Optimise models and agents for latency, reliability, and resource constraints, particularly for edge and offline use.
Robotics, Edge & Deployment
* Deploy agentic AI systems onto robotic and edge platforms, balancing compute, power, and network constraints.
* Implement inference stacks that support on-device, hybrid, and disconnected operation.
* Package AI systems using containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS/OpenShift) where appropriate.
* Own the end-to-end lifecycle of AI services you build: deployment, monitoring, optimisation, and iteration.
* Implement observability for AI systems, including agent behaviour, model performance, and failure modes.
Infrastructure (Supporting, Not Primary)
* Work within secure edge environments, contributing infrastructure where required to support AI workloads.
* Contribute to security hardening and operational resilience for AI services in sensitive environments.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
* Work closely with the Oxford Dynamics’ Robotics Team and Product Leads to shape system architectures.
* Act as a technical authority for agentic AI, setting design patterns and best practices.
* Mentor junior engineers in multi-agent system design, VLLMs, and applied generative AI.
* Communicate complex AI concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
Required Skills & Experience
* MOD Security Clearance (or ability/desire to obtain).
* Proven commercial experience delivering agentic AI systems (LangGraph or equivalent) with 4+ agents in production, LLMs, VLLMs and computer vision.
* Strong understanding of multi-agent coordination, memory architectures, tool use, and planning.
* Experience deploying AI systems to edge or robotic platforms.
* Strong Python skills for AI development; comfortable with Bash and/or Go for automation.
* Experience packaging and deploying AI systems using Docker and Kubernetes.
Preferred / Bonus Experience
* Research or commercial experience in robotics, autonomy, or embodied AI.
* Optimising models for constrained, offline, or sovereign deployments.
* Building REST services around AI and agent pipelines.
* Experience with observability of AI systems (model drift, agent behaviour, performance).
* Familiarity with secure-by-design development (ISO 27001, NIST, OWASP, GDPR).
Soft Skills
* Research-driven and curious, with a strong bias toward shipping real systems.
* Comfortable navigating ambiguity at the frontier of agentic and generative AI.
* Able to bridge cutting-edge research and real-world deployment.
* Clear communicator who can mentor and influence across disciplines.
* Ownership mindset: from concept → prototype → production → iteration.
