Permanent Opportunity for a Lead Powertrain Engineer
Duties/Responsibilities
1. Overseeing benchmarking to industry standards and competitor vehicles
2. Managing project timelines with team leaders
3. Reviewing engineers' lists and drawings for first releases
4. Supporting material and manufacturing process selection
5. Managing powertrain design reviews
6. Acting as deputy for the Team Leader in their absence
7. Motivating junior team members and providing leadership
8. Recognizing training needs and making critical decisions
9. Ensuring staff adhere to departmental procedures
10. Designing engine components from concept to production
11. Producing schemes and detailed CAD drawings per BS 8888
12. Specifying component parameters including materials and finishes
13. Presenting design solutions during reviews
14. Releasing parts following internal procedures
15. Liaising with departments and suppliers
16. Updating engineers' lists and considering design aspects like manufacturing, durability, and cost
17. Developing departmental procedures and sharing technical knowledge
Personal Specification
1. Practical engineering and mechanical experience
2. Engineering qualification (BEng Hons 2-1 or higher)
3. Minimum 6+ years in automotive/engineering
4. Pro-E or CREO experience preferred
5. Understanding of Powertrain interactions
6. Knowledge of DFM, DFA, and problem-solving methods
7. Experience with supply chain liaison
8. Experience with materials and manufacturing processes
