Birketts opened a new full-service office in Sevenoaks, Kent in April 2023, and the Corporate team has ambitious growth plans to expand its reach into the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex areas through recruitment in Sevenoaks and with the support of the entire firmwide Corporate team.
We are looking to recruit an individual with drive and commitment to support Birketts’ continued growth and development of our firmwide corporate practice. The candidate will become a core member of the Partnership, supporting Sevenoaks Corporate partner Matthew Miles in building and developing the Corporate team in Sevenoaks. Responsibilities include participating in business development activities such as attending networking events, supporting tenders and pitches, and drafting sector-relevant articles for publications.
In line with our growth ambitions in Sevenoaks, we are also seeking to recruit a Senior Associate/Legal Director for the Sevenoaks Corporate team, along with additional junior lawyers in the future.
Accountabilities
Purpose of the job
This role involves supporting the growth of our new office and corporate practice in Sevenoaks. The successful candidate will have excellent legal knowledge, be able to think commercially and analytically, and provide tailored, practical advice to clients including high net worth individuals. They should be able to work clearly under pressure, communicate concisely, and actively participate in marketing and practice development, delivering high-quality service to clients. Experience in managing client relationships, regional knowledge, and existing regional business connections are also important.

* Technically capable corporate lawyer with experience advising on buy-side and sell-side transactions, as well as reorganisations and joint ventures.
* Experience in private equity, venture capital, EOT transactions, share schemes, or related sectors would be advantageous.
* Ability to manage transactions independently and supervise junior team members.
* Experience working with startups, owner-managed, family-owned businesses, large corporates, PE houses, and funds.
* Knowledge of motivating teams and supporting junior staff according to Learning & Development policies.
