Job summary Applications are sought for a 10 PA substantive consultant post in renal medicine. This will include 1-2 PA of SPA time depending upon the role. This consultant job has been created to cover the increasing workload in the department. This is one of two jobs currently been advertised by the unit to have 2 new substantive colleagues, please apply for each job separately if you would like to be considered for both roles. The successful applicant will be based at the Sussex Kidney Unit (SKU) in the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) in Brighton and the western Sussex area, working for University Hospitals Sussex (UHS). They may also undertake other roles within the catchment area of the Sussex Kidney Unit The successful applicant will become part of the consultant team doing general nephrology in the west of our catchment area in Worthing Hospital. They also will do speciality clinics depending upon their area of interest and experience, we are interested in people with experience of young adult care. They will be responsible for a cohort for haemodialysis patients in the Brighton renal unit. The successful applicant will be involved in renal procedures at the RSCH involving tunnelled haemodialysis line or native and transplant biopsies. Main duties of the job The post holder will work as part of the Sussex Kidney Unit and contribute to the development of the unit both within University Hospitals Sussex and the wider nephrology community. The post holder will be one of twelve full time renal consultants based at the Sussex Kidney Unit in Brighton with an office there. The successful applicant will work in Brighton and in the western area of our catchment in Worthing Hospital but may also need to travel to do clinics within our whole SKU catchment area. The successful applicant will form part of the renal consultant team who do outreach general nephrology clinics in Worthing Hospital seeing new and follow up patients. The standard clinic template would be 8 follow up patients (20 minute slots) and 2 new patients (40 minute slots) in each clinic. Appropriate time is allocated in the job plan for clinic administration and follow up post clinic, this represents a clinic of 4 hours with one hour then allocated for clinic administration and 1 hours 30 mins for follow up between clinic visits. Travel time is also allocated. Clinics will also involve supervising renal NTN trainees managing a clinic alongside the consultant clinics.
