Job Title: Commercial Gas Service / Breakdown Engineer
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Place of Employment: Mobile Worker – travel to various locations within the UK as required.
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 (≈£24.04 – £26.44 per hour)
On-site Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (40 hours per week)
Responsible To: Directors
Recruitment: Successful DBS and employment reference checks required.
Summary of Duties
Service and maintenance of gas appliances within both commercial and domestic properties.
Main Duties
* Attend service and reactive breakdowns to fault find, diagnose and repair in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
* Use knowledge and boiler fault‑finding experience to achieve high first‑time fix rates and good customer care.
* Carry out day‑to‑day responsive maintenance, service and repairs as instructed.
* Perform servicing and safety checks on all heating systems and identify any necessary work to keep systems in good order and compliant with current gas/oil safety regulations.
* Respond to boiler/system breakdowns, inspect and determine all required work to ensure correct functioning.
* Install commercial boilers and associated plant.
* Make immediate decisions on repair requirements when the original job order does not reflect actual work needed, and inform the relevant director.
* Ensure tenants’ furnishings are protected at all times.
* Direct helpers engaged in assembly or installation of heating systems or components.
* Liaise with management or client to ensure all work is completed.
* Ensure all work and repairs are completed safely and in accordance with current codes and practices.
* Abide by all client rules and regulations while on site.
* Seek a best‑value, cost‑effective approach when purchasing materials.
* Maintain and keep up‑to‑date any required training.
* Accurately complete all relevant documentation and promptly return to the office.
* Use the company vehicle in accordance with company policies and procedures, if provided.
* Operate all company property, e.g., motor vehicle, uniform, tools, safely, kept clean and in good order, and test when required.
* Actively pursue additional works and quoting, as required.
* Adhere to the company policies, handbook and Health and Safety.
Requirements
* Experience in the commercial gas sector (analysis, fault finding, service, repair and maintenance on gas/heating installations and appliances).
* Working knowledge of test equipment, including an electrical multimeter.
* Flexible, mobile workforce willing to travel to multiple sites across the West and East Midlands and beyond.
* Willingness to work additional hours over and above contracted hours, where overtime is payable.
* Available to join the emergency call‑out team on a rota basis.
* Professional attitude and positive customer focus.
