Climbing Coach
We are seeking a passionate and qualified Indoor Climbing Coach to lead climbing sessions for secondary school students. The ideal candidate will inspire and develop students' skills on our internal on-site climbing wall. This role is suitable for a motivated individual with a passion for climbing and youth development.
Reporting to: Head of Climbing, via the Director of Sport
The Sports Department at Charterhouse
The department offers core sports such as football, hockey, netball, cricket, and tennis, along with a variety of others including swimming, athletics, golf, badminton, basketball, lacrosse, shooting, racquets, squash, and fives. The school hosts both School and House matches across most sports. Facilities include the Queen's Sports Centre with an indoor swimming pool, sports hall, climbing wall, and fitness suite, as well as an athletics track, golf course, all-weather pitches, outdoor courts, and multiple pitches for football and cricket. Main sport afternoons are on Tuesdays and Thursdays during term time, with matches on Saturdays and mid-week, and additional training sessions may be scheduled in Autumn and Spring terms.
Main Duties:
* Plan and deliver indoor climbing sessions tailored to different skill levels.
* Supervise students during climbing activities, ensuring safety and proper equipment use.
* Encourage teamwork, confidence, and personal growth through climbing.
* Conduct safety checks regularly.
* Collaborate with other school staff.
Safeguarding:
* Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Person Specification:
* Hold a current Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) or Single Pitch Supervisor Award (SPSA). A leading qualification is desirable.
* Experience working with young people in coaching or educational settings is advantageous.
* Possess strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
* Committed to safeguarding and student welfare.
Terms of Service:
* Position starts in September 2025, with sessions twice a week during term time on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 13:45 to 17:00.
* The hourly rate will be agreed upon in advance with the Director of Sport.
