About the Role
Rochdale Borough Council offers an opportunity to join our Adult Social Care service as an Advanced Practitioner Social Worker within our Mental Health Teams.
This is a full-time, permanent position and a key leadership role within the service, offering the chance to shape practice, support staff development, and influence high-quality outcomes for adults in our community.
The Role
As an Advanced Practitioner, you will:
- Provide leadership, supervision, and support to social workers and support planners
- Play a vital role within the management team (this is a non-case-holding position)
- Offer professional guidance on complex cases and decision-making
- Promote a learning culture and high standards of practice
- Ensure effective application of key legislation, including:
- Care Act 2014
- Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Safeguarding frameworks
- Section 117 Aftercare (Mental Health Act)
Professional Requirements
Essential:
- Qualified Social Worker
- Registered with Social Work England
You must also:
- Be a qualified and practising AMHP, or currently on the AMHP training pathway, or willing to undertake the training
- Be a qualified Best Interest Assessor (BIA) or willing to train to support the rota
- The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects staff to share this commitment
Knowledge & Skills
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in adult social care and/or mental health services
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of relevant legislation and practice frameworks
- Can confidently support and guide others with complex cases
- Has experience (or interest) in staff supervision and/or supporting students
- Works collaboratively with multi-agency partners
- Is committed to promoting continuous improvement and quality assurance
