Summary
We are seeking a committed and proactive Assistant Manager to support the daily operations of a homeless hostel in Eastbourne. This vital role combines property maintenance and management, ensuring a safe, clean, and compliant living environment for adults experiencing homelessness. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach, excellent conflict resolution skills, and a strong understanding of maintaining professional boundaries. You will be ready to support across all core business areas, including customer service, front desk, housekeeping, maintenance coordination, food stock checks, health and safety, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
* Perform daily cleaning, minor repairs, decorating, and general upkeep.
* Carry out both reactive and preventative maintenance.
* Conduct regular property inspections to ensure health, safety, and comfort.
* Manage resident intake, including room preparation.
* Monitor and enforce adherence to hostel rules and procedures.
* Maintain professional boundaries.
* Perform regular fire safety checks and routine health & safety inspections.
* Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of incidents, inspections, and resident movements.
* De-escalate tense or aggressive situations in a calm and professional manner.
* Apply conflict management and physical intervention techniques when required.
* Safely and appropriately remove individuals from the property, if necessary, in line with established policies.
* Liaise with local authorities, emergency services, and external support agencies as needed.
Requirements
* Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
* Fluent in English with excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
* Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
* Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail.
* Basic property maintenance experience (DIY, cleaning, decorating).
* Prior experience similar environment.
* Willingness to undergo and pass a DBS check.
Desirable
* SIA Licence (Security Industry Authority) – beneficial but not required. Training provided if licence not held.
