Job Description: MIG/MAG Welder
The core responsibility of this job function is to work as a MIG/MAG Welder in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility as part of a dedicated team to manufacture equipment for the defence industry. This is an opportunity to join a world-class organization, delivering a secured long-term contract to the MOD. Operators will be required to fabricate components adhering to engineering drawings and work instructions.
The day-to-day duties of this role include, but are not limited to:
1. Complying with the Environmental, Health and Safety Policy and identifying health and safety hazards prior to work commencement.
2. Welding using MIG/MAG welding processes on armour plates.
3. Reporting, via approved Maintenance Reporting Procedures, any equipment fault or unusual occurrence.
4. Using drawings and work instructions to complete all tasks, ensuring through visual/non-destructive inspection that the welded finished component conforms to the drawing.
5. Using hand tools and appropriate measuring instruments for the task.
6. Completing European qualification of welder approval tests regularly.
7. Ensuring personal safety and the safety of all other employees by adhering to safety requirements and regulatory standards.
8. Booking hours performing duties on a Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) system, SAP.
What we’re looking for…
You should have completed a Recognised Time-Served Apprenticeship in Welding or a relevant discipline, along with an NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline or equivalent. Welding qualifications to ISO 9606 parts 1 and/or 2 are required; ISO 14732 is desirable. Previous experience in practical welding/fitting in a heavy manufacturing or fabrication environment is also necessary.

Hours: 37-hour week – Monday to Thursday 07:00 – 15:30; Friday 07:00 – 12:00
