Overview
Kinetic is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer (Azure) to join our Platform Engineering team in Milton Keynes, UK. The role supports our large-scale cloud transformation, serving 100+ production customers with year-on-year growth. We design, build, and operate mission-critical Azure infrastructure at scale, enabling multi-tenant SaaS platforms for education and events.
What you will be doing
* Lead the architecture, development, and operational excellence of our Azure platform, driving improvements in platform reliability, performance, and scalability.
* Establish and champion platform engineering best practices across Azure infrastructure; mentor and raise cloud competency across the organization.
* Architect and optimise customer onboarding workflows with automation and infrastructure-as-code to reduce deployment cycles and improve efficiency.
* Design and implement comprehensive observability frameworks using Azure monitoring and analytics to inform strategy and capacity planning.
* Drive continuous platform evolution by adopting emerging Azure services and patterns for a multi-tenant environment.
* Leverage AI and data insights tooling to reduce onboarding time, increase efficiency, and identify opportunities to optimize cost and the engineering lifecycle.
What you will need to hit the ground running
* 5+ years of platform engineering experience in production Azure environments with deep architectural knowledge across compute, networking, storage, identity, and security.
* Experience in ISV or large-scale platform environments, designing, building, and operating multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure.
* Advanced infrastructure-as-code proficiency (Terraform, Azure Bicep, Ansible, or ARM) with production-grade deployments.
* Strong understanding of cloud security and compliance (ISO27001, PCI/DSS, GDPR) with hands-on security controls and audit readiness.
* Production CI/CD experience using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent, with GitOps workflows.
* Programming skills in Python, Go, PowerShell, or C# with automation tooling experience.
* Site Reliability Engineering mindset with experience defining SLOs, monitoring/alerting, and post-incident analysis.
Highly desirable
* Multi-cloud experience (AWS, GCP) and cloud-agnostic thinking.
* Enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure experience (Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Citrix).
* Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).
* Experience with container orchestration (AKS, Docker) and modern deployment patterns.
* Background in regulated industries (financial services, higher education) and familiarity with FINOPS.
* Contributions to open-source projects or recognized platform engineering thought leadership.
