Job Summary

To provide Consultant input to community eating disorder mental health team (0.5 WTE) and to the A-EDIT service (alternative to admission eating disorder team) (0.5 WTE).

To observe local and national employment directives with regard to managed medical personnel and ensure adherence to appropriate NHS and Trust policies.

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a year Per annum

Job Description

Key Clinical Responsibilities

* Provide clinical leadership to both the community eating disorder service and the A-EDIT team.
* Contribute to assessment of patients referred for diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders and relevant comorbid conditions.
* Support multidisciplinary team members in assessment and liaison with other teams and professionals for complex patients.
* Facilitate accurate diagnosis and timely interventions in line with the recovery model.
* Deliver ongoing evidence‑based treatments for patients, supported by NICE guidelines, maintaining a biopsychosocial approach.
* Chair the weekly high‑risk meeting and assist in the weekly team meeting.
* Participate in induction, training, supervision of junior doctors, medical student teaching, and peer supervision of GPs.
* Maintain Section 12(2) status, Approved Clinician status and awareness of Mental Health, Mental Capacity and Care Act legislation.
* Act as Responsible Clinician for patients on supervised community treatment orders and participate in Mental Health Act assessments when possible.
* Contribute to collection of clinical information for service development, audit and clinical governance activities.
* Engage in quality improvement and service development work within the Trust.
* Lead service development and quality improvement, implementing national guidance such as NICE guidance and the MEED guidance.
* Maintain professional development, education and accreditation, with time and financial support provided.


Person Specification


Education/Qualification

* Full GMC registration and licence to practice.
* MBBS or equivalent.
* Approved clinician status or eligible to attend training.
* MRCPsych or equivalent (desirable).


Entry Criteria for the Grade

* Specialty Registration in specialty.
* CCT in relevant specialty or within 6 months of attainment of Higher Training CCT at interview.
* Equivalent experience and competencies recognised by GMC.


Experience

* Proven experience of good working relationships and multidisciplinary working.
* Experience of reflective practice/formulation.
* Experience of teaching and supervision of doctors in training.
* Experience in eating disorder psychiatry (desirable).
* Experience of managing patients with complex comorbid conditions (personality disorder, autism) (desirable).
* Qualification in leading reflective practice/formulation (desirable).


Skills / Ability / Knowledge

* Knowledge of policy and legislation relating to mental health.
* Decision‑making and problem solving skills.
* Management skills.
* Ability to take a clinical lead.
* Ability to represent department at Trust wide meetings.
* Ability to work and build relationships with others.
* Ability to travel.
* Advanced therapeutic skills such as formal psychotherapy training in an intensive modality (desirable).


Qualities / Attributes

* Able to demonstrate reflective practice.
* Approachable and flexible.
* Reliable.
* Understanding of service within the wider context of NHS Mental Health Services and PCTs.
* Experience of developing services in a constantly changing environment within tight budgetary restraints (desirable).
