Senior Engagement Consultant – Local Government
WSP is a global engineering and professional services firm that works on landmark projects around the world. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our growing Local Government team in the South West.
Locations available: Exeter, Bristol, Southampton, or Taunton. The role supports public consultation and engagement for key local government projects across the UK, acting as a trusted advisor and collaborating with colleagues across WSP.
Responsibilities
* Help communities and stakeholders understand projects and how they may impact them by writing clear communications.
* Organise events and run surveys to provide people with opportunities to ask questions and give feedback.
* Analyse data and present key themes and issues in reports to inform responsible project development.
* Provide communication and engagement advice, including developing virtual consultation rooms, posters, banners, public‑facing maps, and community engagement events.
* Engage with clients, their leaders, and members to build strong relationships and ensure successful outcomes.
Qualifications
* Experience in local government, highways, rail, utilities, water, environment, or energy sectors.
* Demonstrated leadership of engagement processes across multi‑disciplinary projects, including drafting stakeholder engagement strategies, conducting consultations, coding and analysing data, and reporting to satisfy legislative requirements.
* Line‑management experience or experience managing junior team members through project delivery.
* Strong team player with an enthusiastic and motivated attitude.
* Well‑organised, structured approach to task delivery and flexibility to adapt within a demanding, fast‑changing environment.
* Enthusiasm for growing a career in communications and engagement.
* Experience with Common Place tool (desirable).
