Overview

Advice Worker needed to onboard new service users

Our core service centres around the delivery of a food pack. In order for people to access this service, we require them to be ‘onboarded’, an essential task done by our Welcome Desk Volunteers.

What difference will you make?

Since April 2020, Empty Kitchens Full Hearts has cooked, packed and delivered more than 2.2 million meals to those in need across Edinburgh, free of charge and without judgement. Alongside our community of volunteers, we turn surplus food into healthy meals. Our service is available to all, and is offered without having to prove need. This means that we reach some of the most marginalised people across Edinburgh. We would not be able to do this without the vital work that our Welcome Desk volunteers do. This work makes a regular, tangible difference to the lives of hundreds of people a week.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a compassionate and organised individual who has experience in roles that require administrative skills and strong communication, including potentially challenging conversations. While a formal "welcome desk" or "reception" background isn't required, we are seeking candidates who have at least 3 years of experience demonstrating the following abilities:

* Excellent Communication – Proven ability to communicate effectively, particularly over the phone, with a friendly and professional demeanor. This could be from a previous role in social care, customer service, call centers, or client-facing positions.
* Organisational Skills – A track record of successfully managing varied tasks, staying organised, and helping things run efficiently.
* Attention to Detail – Experience with data entry or database management, with a focus on accuracy.
* Problem-Solving – The ability to work both as a team and independently, to work collaboratively and provide helpful, timely support.

What will you be doing?

Key Responsibilities

* Onboarding and Communication – Act as the first point of contact for service users, primarily over the phone. Guide them through our onboarding process with clear and friendly communication.
* Operational Support – Assist with a variety of administrative tasks, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of our organisation.
* Interdepartmental Coordination – Work with different teams to help with cross-departmental tasks and projects.
* Database Management – Use our internal databases to track information and ensure data accuracy.
