Job Description
The Environment Agency are fully committed to inclusivity and equal opportunities, offering flexible work arrangements for all our vacancies. Join us in a diverse environment where every voice is heard and valued. You want to effectively regulate the energy sectors to create a better place? The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, which are responsible for 24% of UK Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. They’ll need to fully decarbonise by 2050 while doubling electricity production. Concerns about energy security add pressure to quickly transition to new sustainable sources of power, whilst maximising domestic sources of energy.
Through effective regulation, we must ensure that energy sectors protect people and the environment from emissions, while mitigating and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
We’re recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for somebody with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
Responsibilities
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players
* respond to incidents, make yourself available to respond or provide business continuity support during an incident
* support the Energy & COMAH team in leading on the definition of standards for energy sectors, providing strategic direction, guidance and training for new duties, and delivering environmental best practice
Qualifications
* ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and actively encourage diversity issues in your work
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for this role, gained either by working within and/or regulating relevant processes, including control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
