The Client
A UK based company established over 50 years ago who specialises in designing, manufacturing, installing and commissioning bespoke engineering systems to clients across the globe. Due to continued growth within the business they are increasing their logistics team with the appointment of a Planning Manager reporting to the Group Operations Manager.
The Role
As Planning Manager you will have full responsibility for the professional production planning and scheduling system with reference to capacity and to meet customer expectations on timely delivery by performing the following duties. You will be responsible for a team of staff and be capable of leading successfully whilst always meeting client and capacity demands.
Key Tasks
* Full understanding of all company’s products
* Develop a good awareness of the manufacturing machinery
* In depth knowledge of all departments and their capacities
* Approve all issues of work from the planning team
* Liaise internally to determine customer requirements
* Prediction of longevity of each project in order to plan successfully
* Develop a production schedule detailing all tasks and completion dates
* Monitor job/projects progress through relevant departments to ensure correct schedule
* Troubleshoot all problems including staff shortages and machinery breakdown
* Investigate all customer complaints and discuss findings
* Perform time and motion studies
* Chair Production Planning meetings
* Forecast manning requirements for all projects including movement of internal labour and requirements for external labour
* Make effective use of night shift operations
* Prepare and submit status and performance reports
* Be active in providing conclusions / suggestions of ways to improve efficiency
* Approve holidays and maintain IT systems
* Involvement with Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental teams
The Candidate
The successful applicant for the role of Planning Manager will have experience in a similar role and be highly communicative. You will be have management skills, be able to run the department and be capable of generating reports and deliver them to the senior management team with suitable ideas for improvement and you will be dedicated to lean methodologies.
