We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced R&D Manager to join a world-renowned scientific instrument manufacturer. the company designs and manufactures advanced analytical instrumentation used across research, geochemistry and environmental science applications.
As Head of Development, you will be responsible for managing engineering development across mechanical, electronics and software disciplines while driving innovation and new product development within a precision manufacturing environment. You will play a key role in shaping the company’s product roadmap, overseeing multiple concurrent development programmes and ensuring the delivery of high-performance instrumentation to international standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team (~10 direct reports)
* Provide technical leadership and design authority across product development
* Oversee multiple concurrent R&D projects
* Drive new product introduction (NPI) and product lifecycle management
* Manage recruitment, training and performance of engineering staff
* Lead design reviews, feasibility studies and project scoping
* Ensure compliance with CE, UKCA and ISO9001 standards
* Contribute to department budgeting and resource planning
Requirements:
* Senior engineering leadership experience (e.g. Head of Engineering, Engineering Director, Technical Director, NPI Director etc)
* Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Background in scientific instrumentation, analytical equipment or complex engineered products
* Strong experience in product development within a manufacturing environment
* Electronics engineering background desirable
