Job Title: Electrical Improver
Hourly Rate of Pay: £16.95
Contract Type: Permanent
Type of Employment: Full Time
Total Weekly Contractual Hours: 37.5
Location: Mitie, Unit 5 Scot Court, Matford Park Road, Exeter, Devon, England, EX2 8AW

An Electrical Improver supports qualified electricians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems. This role is ideal for individuals progressing through their training or seeking to gain further experience before qualifying as an electrician. Electrical Improvers are expected to demonstrate a growing competence in practical electrical tasks and a commitment to safety and professional development.

Key responsibilities include assisting electricians in the installation of electrical systems and components across commercial, industrial, and domestic sites. The Electrical Improver will carry out basic electrical tasks under supervision, such as cable pulling, containment installation, and minor wiring. They are also responsible for preparing and maintaining tools, equipment, and materials for use on site. Following instructions from supervisors and electricians is essential to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently. The Electrical Improver must adhere to site-specific health and safety protocols and JIB National Working Rules. Maintaining a clean and organised work area and supporting general site duties are also part of the role. Moreover, the Electrical Improver is expected to engage in ongoing learning and development to progress toward full electrician status.

To qualify for this position, candidates must be ECS cardholders (Electrical Improver grade) and have completed Stage 1 or Stage 2 of a recognised electrical training programme (e.g., NVQ Level 2 or equivalent). A basic understanding of BS7671 Wiring Regulations and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 is required, along with a commitment to progressing toward full qualification as an Installation Electrician.

Skills and attributes necessary for success in this role include good practical aptitude and a willingness to learn, the ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team, basic fault-finding and problem-solving skills, and awareness of health and safety practices in electrical environments. Additionally, a reliable, punctual, and professional attitude is essential.
