We are seeking a Head of HR to lead and develop the HR function across our growing group of companies. This role is ideally suited to an experienced HR Manager who is ready to step into a broader, more influential position and grow into a strategic, group-level role over time.
Initially, the role will be hands‑on and operational, focused on building strong HR foundations, clear processes and trusted relationships with managers and employees across the group. As the business continues to evolve, the role will naturally progress to include greater strategic input, workforce planning and people‑led change.
You will have responsibility for HR across the group and will manage one direct report, who currently operates the payroll and provides HR administration and support to the business.
Key responsibilities
* Develop, implement and manage HR policies, procedures and frameworks in line with UK employment legislation
* Act as the primary HR adviser to managers on employee relations, performance management and workforce planning
* Lead end‑to‑end recruitment and onboarding processes across the group
* Strengthen employer branding and support initiatives to attract and retain talent
* Oversee sickness absence management, including monitoring trends and implementing effective return‑to‑work processes
* Manage and develop HR systems, reporting and key people metrics
* Oversee compensation and benefits administration and support annual salary review processes
* Ensure timely and accurate preparation of contracts, HR documentation and maintenance of personnel records
* Stay up to date with labour market trends and legislative changes, proactively advising the business
* Provide cover and support for payroll during holidays and periods of absence
* Line manage and support the payroll and HR support function
About you
You will be an experienced HR professional who enjoys balancing operational delivery with the opportunity to influence and improve how a business approaches its people.
* CIPD Level 5 (or higher) or a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related discipline
* Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant HR experience in a generalist role
* Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
* Confident advising and influencing managers at all levels
* Practical, solutions‑focused and comfortable rolling your sleeves up
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across teams
* A sense of humour and a down‑to‑earth approach
* Experience within transport, logistics or a similar operational environment would be an advantage, but not essential
What we offer
* A competitive salary aligned to experience and responsibility
* Opportunity to shape and grow a group HR function
* Pension contributions
* Ongoing personal and professional development
