Overview

You will join a technician team outdoors, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users. Your role and responsibilities
* Provide the essential link between the team leader and the team’s operatives, with specialists in Signalling & Telecoms.
* Work with equipment including signals, level crossings and points systems; develop a wide range of technical skills across manual, electrical and digital equipment.
* Work outdoors in all conditions; transport kit and work on uneven terrain; maintain safety as a core priority.
* Lead the team when asked by the team leader; ensure safe work practices and verify team competencies meet safety standards.
* Commit to self-development and continuous learning with provided training to develop technical and non-technical skills.
Your Skills and qualifications
* Leadership: able to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
* Effective communication: clear instructions to team and colleagues.
* Technical skills: knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques relevant to the discipline.
* Safety: model safe behaviours, implement safe systems of work, and challenge unsafe situations.
* Problem solving: persistent in finding safe and effective solutions and keeping up to date with new standards.
* Willingness to learn: ongoing development of skills and competencies.
* Relevant qualification: NVQ Level 1 or 2 related to the discipline or equivalent experience.
Additional information
* Shifts involve changing patterns including days, nights and weekends.
* Outdoor working in various weather conditions.
* Pre-employment checks including drug/alcohol testing and medical assessment; BPSS checks may apply.
* Driving license (category B) required to operate Network Rail vehicles.
* Within a 60-minute commute of the location you are applying for.
