Job Description:
As a result of a retirement, we have a vacancy for a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry.
This post is based at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, a modern District General Hospital with a range of specialties and diagnostic facilities. One of the attractions of working in Moray is a tradition of close collaboration with General Practice and the local authority, formalized as an Integrated Joint Board since April 2016. The post provides consultant input to the east Moray catchment area, which includes rural Speyside, coastal villages, and part of Elgin City. The team includes two other Consultants in General Adult Psychiatry, and the catchment area for this post will be Elgin-based.
The Royal Burgh of Elgin is a vibrant centre of administration, education, tourism, and trade, with industries such as agriculture, services, and textiles. Located in Scotland’s Castle and Whisky country, the area offers recreational activities like golf, fishing, hill walking, surfing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding, and winter sports. This is an excellent opportunity to live and work in a beautiful part of Scotland with a high quality of life and good transport links across the UK.
The postholder will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. They will register with the Continuing Professional Development Programme of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, with all costs covered by NHS Grampian. Opportunities for research are available, and there are close links with the Departments of Mental Health and Psychology at the University of Aberdeen. The post involves contributing to audit and clinical governance. A detailed job plan will be agreed upon appointment, tailored to the candidate’s experience, skills, and interests, within the consultant team. Engagement in annual appraisal for revalidation is expected.
This is a whole-time position. Candidates unable to work full-time for personal reasons may still be considered, with an amended job description agreed upon.
Applicants trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or be within 6 months of confirmed entry onto the GMC Specialist Register from the interview date.
Alternatively, applicants may possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applicants with appropriate specialist training and experience not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant position (up to 12 months) if no substantive appointment is made. During locum employment, applications for CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be pursued.
