Job overview
At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.
We are looking for a confident and well-presented individual to join our phlebotomy team. The collection of quality blood samples from patients is a vital stage in many medical investigations. The successful applicant must enjoy working with people and possess good communication skills.
Based at Royal Stoke the successful applicant will be expected to work at community centres as well as Royal Stoke and County Hospitals. You should be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Attention to detail is important along with basic keyboard skills and applicants should enjoy the challenge of working in a fast pace patient environment.
Main duties of the job
* Collect quality blood samples from patients at community centres, Royal Stoke, County Hospitals, ward based locations, community walk‑in centres and community appointment based clinics.
* Work independently and as part of a team to ensure accurate sample collection and safe handling.
* Maintain accurate records using basic keyboard skills.
* Transport samples back to the hospital using a reliable vehicle.
Person specification
Qualifications / Training
* NVQ / QCF level 2 / apprenticeship level 2 or equivalent in related subject or GCSE English and maths at C grade or above or equivalent.
* GCSE at grade C or above or equivalent in a science subject.
* Care related NVQ.
Experience
* Evidence of manual dexterity and technical work.
* Experience of working as part of a team.
* Previous work involving Phlebotomy.
* Work in a healthcare role or similar.
Skills & Knowledge
* Ability to work to defined protocols and seek advice where appropriate.
* Basic keyboard skills.
Other Job Requirements
* Understanding of the job requirements.
* Must have transport and be able to travel to outreach/walk‑in phlebotomy clinics.
