The service continues to implement and develop this model within Barts Health NHS Trust, putting patients at the heart of this transformation, and also collaborating across the London MTC system to establish system-wide governance and communication. Evidence gathering, evaluation and broadcasting are key, to enable discussion with local and national commissioners around implementation potential.

The post-holders will benefit from peer support at Pan-London MTC Network level, led by Idit Albert. The post-holders will also be welcomed into the thriving psychological workforce across Barts Health, with the benefits of professional network and CPD support from colleagues in Clinical Health Psychology in particular.

This is an opportunity to join a flourishing team providing a psychologically informed, timely approach within a world-class Trauma Centre, amongst outstanding colleagues; whether as part of a major incident response or for any individual who has sustained major physical injury, we are there at an important time.

Main duties of the job

• Responsible for providing a highly specialist, psychology input to the planning, development and delivery of the RLH MTC pathway for patients admitted following Major Trauma.
• Responsible for planning, developing and providing a psychology service supporting after-trauma care across the pathway, from the ward and into the community, both directly and indirectly, through staff and carer consultation.
• Teaching, training and supervision of nursing and other multi-disciplinary colleagues on psychological and/or neuropsychological theory and practice, as required.
• Implementation of the published guidance for major trauma, to maximise an embedded approach to team working, and other service delivery, based upon the evidence base and NHS guidelines.
• Providing clinical supervision to qualified, assistant and trainee clinical psychologists, as required.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS and HCPC.

Desirable criteria

2. Relevant specialist training or qualifications in managing violence and aggression or post- trauma therapy such as EMDR.
3. Clinical supervision training for Doctoral trainees.
4. Progressing towards or have achieved eligibility for the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists with the British Psychological Society.

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Assessed and substantial experience of working as a qualified Practitioner Psychologist, including relevant experience in physical health settings since qualification.
6. Experience of working with people who may be reluctant to engage with services, and the people and systems around them, including carers.
7. Experience of working in a physical health setting, providing highly specialist health psychology assessment and treatment, with children and/or adults.
8. Experience of working in a multi-cultural setting, including working with interpreters.

Desirable criteria

9. Experience in an acute healthcare setting, including close physical proximity to service-users who have recently been exposed to life-threatening levels of injury.
10. Experience with people who may have experienced levels of intentional physical harm, to others or self.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

11. Ability to communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals and colleagues.
12. Ability to contain, assess and mediate in situations with service-users where they may be distressed and/or at risk to themselves and others.
13. Ability to formulate complex clients’ presenting difficulties within a theoretical framework, to plan and deliver an appropriate specialist treatment intervention, and to evaluate the efficacy and outcome of treatment.
14. Skills in selecting and applying psychometric tests.
15. Doctoral level research skills and experience of both quantitative and qualitative research methods

Communication

Essential criteria

16. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
17. Working to Professional Guidelines.
18. Must be capable of autonomous and independent practice necessitating the adoption of responsibility for own work and interventions, and for the interpretation of agreed guidelines and policies.

Desirable criteria

19. Skills in engaging those who may not be comfortable accessing services, due to systemic issues.
