TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT OF VICE-PRINCIPALS
Duties
* Formulating the aims and objectives of the school;
* Establishing the policy through which they will be achieved;
* Managing staff and resources to that end;
* Monitoring progress towards their achievement;
* Undertaking any professional duties of the principal delegated to him/her by the principal;
* Undertaking to the extent required by the principal or the relevant body or employing authority the professional duties of the principal in the event of his/her absence from the school; and
* Entitlement to a break of at least 30 minutes between the hours of 12 noon and 2pm.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT OF A TEACHER
General Professional Duties
* If he/she is employed as a teacher in a school, under the reasonable direction of the Principal of that school;
* If he/she is employed by the Board on terms under which he/she is not assigned to any one school, under the reasonable direction of that board and of the Principal of any school in which he/she may for the time being be required to work as a teacher.
Exercise of particular duties

o Each teacher may, at any time, be requested by the Principal to undertake any of the above duties that require a teacher's knowledge, skill and experience; and
o A teacher is responsible for the appropriate delegation of tasks to others when required.
Job Description – Teaching Posts
Main duties and Responsibilities
* Planning
o 1.1 Planning and preparing courses and lessons;
o 1.2 Teaching and supporting pupils assigned to the teacher, including setting and marking work;
o 1.3 Assessing, recording and reporting on pupil development, progress and attainment.
* General
o 2.1 Promoting the general progress and wellbeing of pupils;
o 2.2 Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters and future careers;
o 2.3 Making records of pupils' personal and social needs;
o 2.4 Communicating and consulting with parents;
o 2.5 Consulting with external persons or bodies approved by the employing authority; and
o 2.6 Participating in relevant meetings.
* Assessment/Reporting
o Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references regarding individual pupils and groups.
* Staff Development/Professional Development
o 4.1 Participating in staff development schemes and performance review;
o 4.2 Reviewing teaching methods and programmes of work; and
o 4.3 Advising and cooperating with the Principal and other teachers on development of courses, materials and pastoral arrangements.
* Discipline/Health and Safety
o 5.1 Maintaining good order and discipline and safeguarding pupils' health and safety.
* Curriculum and Administration
o 5.2 Participating in meetings related to curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions.
* Public Examinations
o Participating in pupil examination preparation and assessment.
* Review and Development of Management Activities/Administration
o 7.1 Contributing to selection and development of other teachers, including induction of probationary teachers;
o 7.2 Participating in administrative tasks related to curriculum and pastoral functions.
* Staff cover
o 8.1 Supervising and teaching pupils if their teacher is unavailable, subject to enrolment and absence criteria.
Job Description
VICE PRINCIPAL
The successful candidate will work within the agreed Terms and Conditions of Service for Vice‑Principals. The Vice‑Principal will deputise for the Principal when necessary and take an active part in all aspects of school life. In addition to a full‑time teaching commitment and membership of the School Leadership Team, the Vice‑Principal’s duties will include:
* Leading learning through example by high standards of teaching and learning.
* Assisting the Principal in all areas of leading learning and teaching, school administration, management and organisation.
* Assisting the Principal in leading School Development Planning, Self‑Evaluations and Staff Development (INSET).
* Having overall responsibility for pastoral care (in discussion with the Principal).
* Co‑ordinating curriculum development, setting benchmarks, target setting, PRSD, monitoring provision.
* Acting as Line Manager to Coordinators of Personal Development, Citizenship, and Employability.
* Promoting positive behaviour and assertive discipline.
* Overseeing educational visits and serving as line manager for classroom assistants.
* Assisting with financial administration, including budget planning, allocations and spend monitoring.
* Acting as C2K Strategic Manager to ensure efficient ICT provision.
* Maintaining and promoting links with parents, including PTFA committee membership.
* Assisting with major school events and overseeing extra‑curricular activities.
* Assisting with lunch time cover.
* Undertaking other duties as required by the Principal.

Post Primary Vice‑Principal – Person Specification

Qualifications
Hold a teaching qualification that meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
Preference may be given to those who have completed a postgraduate qualification in Education.
Experience
* Minimum of 5 years post‑qualification teaching experience in post‑primary education or equivalent, within the last 10 years.
* Minimum of 3 years (within last 8 years) in a post of strategic leadership or whole‑school coordination (Subject Co‑ordinator/Head of Key Stage/Head of Department/SMT/SLT).
* Experience as a Principal or Vice‑Principal.
* Leadership and management experience within an affiliated body.
Evidence
* Evidence of leadership leading to school improvement.
* Evidence of involvement in strategic planning.
* Evidence of leading Pastoral Care.
Essential Knowledge
* Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Post‑Primary Curriculum and current policies.
* Knowledge of current educational developments and change management.

* Effective organisational management and resource deployment.
