Senior Solicitor, Litigation Team – City of Edinburgh Council
Salary: £67,457 - £80,569
Hours: 36 per week (full-time)
Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice to a wide range of Council services including Licensing, Housing, the Homeless Team, Social Work, Education and Bereavement Services.
* Take a focus on complex cases conducted in court or Tribunal.
* Assist in other areas of litigation work.
* Advocate effectively in court and tribunals, including the Sheriff court, Court of Session, First Tier Tribunal and related hearings.
* Work as part of a team to solve complex problems and support colleagues.
Qualifications
* Qualified solicitor, admitted to the Bar.
* Experience of housing cases, anti‑social behaviour and property litigation preferred.
* Experience of contentious litigation, including handling cases in the Sheriff court and/or Judicial Reviews in the Court of Session, beneficial.
* Experience of education disputes, presenting cases at the First Tier Tribunal and School appeals desirable but not essential.
* Strong litigation and advocacy skills.
* Positive attitude, willingness to learn and teamwork ability.

* Standard disclosure check required; Overseas Criminal Record Check required for any continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK within the last 5 years.
