Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Highly Specialist CAMHS ADHD Practitioner Prescribing qualifications and considerable Neurodevelopmental CAMHS experience, to come and work in the socially and ethnically diverse borough of Tower Hamlets.

The role is based in our ADHD pathway, and the post holder will contribute to the assessment and treatment of young people and families in this pathway, as well as leading on service development/quality improvement projects in the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holderwill provide assessments and evidence-based interventions for children and young people with suspected neurodevelopmental disorders.The role will also provide a non-medical prescribing service within CAMHS principally to children and young people with ADHD and their families. This is a community-based post within Tower Hamlets CAMHS The post holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the ADHD Pathway. The post holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management and will be required to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit.

The post-holder will produce reports on developments for TH CAMHS managers and multi-agency partners.

Person specification

Education/ Qualification/Training

Essential criteria

1. Registered Nurse Mental Health or Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities or Registered Children’s Nurse. Part 3/8/13 or 15 NMC register
2. Non-medical prescribing qualification
3. ENB 998 or equivalent

Desirable criteria

4. Post graduate qualification in a behavioural treatment modality
5. Relevant post-graduate qualification in child and adolescent mental health. e.g. ENB 603
6. MA/MSc in CAMHS related field

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Previous experience of working in CAMHS or equivalent
8. Experience at Band 7 or above
9. Experience of working specifically with neurodevelopmental disorders
10. Experience of line management
11. Experience of mentorship and a nurse- teaching role
12. Experience of service development
13. Experience of providing multi-disciplinary teaching and training
14. Experience of care and safety/risk management planning & treatment
15. Experience of working in a culturally diverse Inner-city area
16. Experience of working with YP out of School/Education
17. Experience of working collaboratively with Children Services and other agencies

Desirable criteria

18. Experience of working collaboratively with new referrals/ front door services
19. Coordination and facilitation of therapeutic group delivery
20. Leading in pathways in CAMHS/AMH services
21. Experience in policy development

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

22. Evidence of well-developed clinical skills and knowledge in CAMHS
23. Ability to complete ADHD assessments independently
24. Ability to work in a high-pressured environment and manage competing demands
25. Highly developed, appropriate, and transparent communication skills with both internal and external colleagues
26. Able to manage own time and caseload
27. Excellent written & verbal communication skills
28. Able to work effectively across organisational boundaries
29. Basic computer skills e.g., RiO, COMMIT and Excel

30. Experience of managing a team Including supervision, Training, formulating health rosters
31. Evidence of ability to lead, support and influence others
32. Teaching skills, both in clinical setting and education centres
33. Knowledge and experience of service needs, needs of young people in the local area and experience of transformation pathways
34. Knowledge and experience of meeting service needs & demands
35. Working collaboratively with Commissioning bodies and other agencies involved in the service delivery

Essential criteria

36. A high degree of self-awareness and an ability to reflect on personal and professional attitudes and accept feedback
37. Awareness of current national guidelines and policies in the field of CAMHS, including Child Protection Guidelines
38. Knowledge of specific inner-city issues which impact on care delivery
39. Knowledge of standard setting and quality assurance

40. Knowledge of development in inter agency partnership
41. In-depth knowledge and current of CAMHS issues including assessment and interventions

46. Mental effort: writing reports; planning teaching; concentrating for therapy sessions /clinical supervision; managing psychiatric emergencies; precise accuracy when administering medication (for nurses)
47. Emotional effort: Dealing with families in breakdown; experiencing trauma and abuse; occasional patient complaints; conveying of unwelcome news
48. Working conditions: Occasional verbal and physical abuse; unpredictable clinical scenarios e.g., emergency home visits; travel in community all weathers
